Mink with poor color or poor overall quality are very often color-altered to improve their appearance. Some are bleached and then dyed a totally different color. Some are merely tip-dyed to make the color appear more uniform. When compared to natural color mink, they have a harsh, one-dimensional look with none of the subtlety and depth of American Legend mink.
Most garments sold have a tag that states whether or not the fur is color-altered. Euphemisms such as ‘reinforced color’ or ‘blended color’ are often used to disguise the fact that the mink is dyed. Dyed mink also tend to oxidize or change color more rapidly than the natural color which mellows only slightly with age.
